Update: CBR Feb 2010

My recent visit to CBR was right at the end of the winter season so i was able to capture this pan shot by shuffling out towards the pillars. It's the first time I've been able to get a shot like this, and hopefully not the last, and I think it gives a good idea of the overall depth to the area. I would have to say its a good few hundred meters deep from end to end and as the fading perspective shows, the ceiling height decreases the farther in you go until it becomes impossible to continue unless upon your belly. And there's tags and other random writings all the way through. The sounds of vehicles entering onto the on-ramp and over the sectional bumps of Autoroute Jean-Lesage echo through out this cavernous graffiti place as a sharp reminder of the tonnage of automobiles constantly passing above. As dirty, muddy, dusty, sometimes smelly, and chaotic as this place may appear to be, there is a certain peacefulness to CBR that I cannot but find oddly appealing. Here are some shots from February 2010, some of them are repeats but they're still up so they get in. Enjoy!

Lastly, I have this shot of Razor's piece near CBR with a bunch of R.I.P.'s from fellow writers and others who wanted to pay their respects.  I hope this piece stays up for a while in his memory.

If you haven't heard about his tragic story then you can read it here. Although his death may have not been related to his graffiti based activities, it is still a harsh reminder of the darker side of the subculture and the dangers associated with being a part of it. Obviously doing graffiti isn't dangerous if you don't go out of your way to put yourself in harms way, but there are always outside factors that are not so easily recognizable when your deep in it. So keep your wits about you and stay safe. I'll have some stuff from Stinky's soon.
Peace.
